Training Instructor

Position Summary:

As Training Instructor/Facilitator, you will provide full time support to our clients (both government and non-government) in support of training and personal development of personnel involved naval submarine and ship maintenance.

You will support C2300 or C900 Department with training PHNS personnel on submarine primary and secondary systems in support of qualifying and certifying work force to accomplish work shipboard on CNO and Intermediate Level Maintenance availability periods for both Submarines in accordance with the platform specific maintenance guide. The principal focus of the training program is to increase the competency of PHNS work force assigned to positions with roles and responsibilities critical to availability planning and waterfront project team execution. The training program enables project teams to achieve high performance by developing relationships, individuals and team leadership skills that contribute to a culture of success.

Clearance Requirement:
  • Must be a US citizen with an active DOD Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct stand up instruction and facilitation
  • Develop training module and facilitate training session for respective nuclear or non-nuclear submarine systems.
  • Confer with customers to gain knowledge of identified work situations requiring preventive or remedial training for employees and project teams that may be used for organization-wide training programs and prescribed learning and curriculums
  • Support the code lead coordinate responses to requests for specialized training and performance improvement requirements, and supports training workshops to meet customer requirements
  • Collect measurements and reports on learning progress and performance to support evaluation of the effectiveness of provided training
  • Draft PowerPoint presentations, word documents, memos, etc. as needed
  • Schedule meetings and capture meeting minutes
  • Assist other Trainers/Instructors with their responsibilities based on volume of work and established priorities
  • Organize self and work space to ensure timely completion of assigned duties, accounting for unanticipated support needs and changing priorities.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • 10+ years shipyard experience working with U.S. Navy ship repair and modernization contracts
  • Minimum two years of related (training, military, and/or logistics) experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in the development and delivery of training curriculum or demonstrated training experience

  • Works well on your own establishing your own objectives, tasks, and timeline to accomplish the mission
  • Responsible for supporting the coordination and administration of multiple phases of education and training for the naval ship maintenance community based on guidance from the team lead
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe; basic understanding of computers, teleconferencing and web meeting requirements, connectivity, and equipment
  • Professional attire and communication skills; must highly adaptable to a dynamic training environment, be able to think and act quickly in ways that generate consistently positive outcomes
  • Comfortable working with and around all organizational levels, clients, vendors and visitors
  • Demonstrated experience building team cohesion
  • Basic understanding of project management principles
  • Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate personal initiative to complete assigned work
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Familiarity with naval shipyard environment or heavy industrial environment preferred
  • Experience with organizational behavior / process improvement / facilitation / training background
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 25 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
  • Ability to climb ladders and navigate naval vessels while conducting familiarization walk-throughs with under-instruction personnel
