is seeking an exceptional entry-level Electrical Engineering Associate to join our team in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

At WJE, we spend almost as much time in the field, up close and personal with our projects, as we do in the office. As an Electrical Engineering Associate, you will apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications primarily related to electrical systems for heavy movable structures, including movable bridges, rail transit, locks and dams, ferry terminals, and cranes.

As an Electrical Engineering Associate, you will not only have the opportunity to learn from and grow alongside industry experts, but you will be an integral part of building WJE's emerging Heavy Movable Structures practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the evaluation, design, and specification of power systems, motor control systems, and PLC control systems, while taking into consideration the capabilities, limitations, and availability of specific equipment and anticipating project-specific construction, operating, and maintenance conditions
  • Performs on-site investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations for electrical installations, which may include surveying, documenting distress, field testing (dynamic and static), collecting data and samples, and preparing site visit reports
  • Analyzes field data and perform research to facilitate problem-solving and repair design
  • Performs electrical engineering calculations to size equipment and systems
  • Assists with drafting and preparation of client deliverables, including conceptual, preliminary, and final construction documents, One Line Diagrams, control logic concepts, design details, specifications, and written reports
  • Assumes responsibility for key aspects of projects and completes assignments under the guidance of licensed professionals
  • Interfaces with project teams, clients, and other disciplines, primarily mechanical, architectural, structural, and civil engineers

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or better in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power systems or a related field, from an accredited program
  • Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles and electrical power, control, and motor drive systems
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and curiosity for solving problems and understanding how things work
  • Proactive, team player mindset with willingness to take on various responsibilities
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing demands, while maintaining a high standard of excellence and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work in the field, both locally and outside the local area, including Canada
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain an authorized passport without travel restrictions

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computers, printers, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:

  • Ability to attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
  • Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors
  • Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
  • Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to safely work at heights
  • Ability to safely work in confined spaces
  • Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
  • Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards

  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

Annual starting base salary (gross): $60,900 - $82,300. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base salary is one component of our total compensation package for employees.
