Sutter Amador Hospital, the only hospital in Amador County, serves a population of over 40,000. As a result of the area's growth, changes in the way health care is delivered and advances in medical diagnosis and treatment, a new hospital was constructed to better serve the community. The new 66-bed facility opened in April, 2000 and includes many services in one easily accessible location.

Sutter Amador Hospital is a leader in the health care industry, and an excellent place to work.

You'll be part of a dedicated group of professionals with the resources, training and expertise to provide patients with the most advanced medical care. Our philosophy of creating strong teams ensures that our employees' voices will be heard and contributions respected.

History of Sutter Amador Hospital
The first Amador County Hospital was built in 1876 and was located approximately where Highway 88 passes below today's Amador County Sheriff's Department. It was a large wood structure that served as a shelter where the sick and the indigent elderly could be given some form of medical care.

Around the turn of the century, the need for better facilities sparked construction of the two-story brick and wood structure now referred to as the 'old hospital'. It served the county with a capacity of 40 beds. In 1944, the growing need for better facilities prompted changes, including the installation of an elevator.

That year also saw the start of planning for a new hospital. With the help of the Federal and State governments under the Hill-Burton Act, financial aid was obtained. The new building was begun in 1950 and opened to the public April 9, 1952. In 1972, nearly $4 million in new construction, improvements and equipment was added to update the hospital. In June of 1990, new Emergency, Intensive Care and Radiology Departments were completed.

Sutter Health began management services of the hospital during 1990. Effective March 1, 1993, Sutter Health affiliated with Amador Hospital and officially changed the name to Sutter Amador Hospital.

As a result of areas growth, changes in the way in which healthcare is delivered and advances in medical diagnosis and treatment, the Sutter Amador Hospital site and facility were no longer adequate to meet the healthcare needs of the residents and businesses of Amador County. An increasing volume of services, insufficient physical plant, inability to remodel cost-effectively and a need for larger outpatient and community service facilities are the major reasons the hospital board, working with the Sutter Health leadership, developed the plan for the new hospital.

The new facility is more than just a larger building. The new hospital was built on a 20-acre site and includes many medical services in one easily accessible location. The new Sutter Amador Hospital opened on April 10, 2000.

Today, Sutter Amador Hospital is a 66-bed facility that serves a population of over 40,000 area residents. It is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. The hospital provides its patients with highly personalized care, state-of-the-art medical technology and a knowledgeable, professional staff. As a full affiliate of Sutter Health, Sutter Amador Hospital has a 10-person governing board comprised of citizens from Amador County as well as Sutter Health executives.

In order to meet the continuous growing needs of the community, site work began for Sutter Amador Hospital's multi-phase expansion project in the Fall of 2005. The project included the addition of the Sutter Amador Outpatient Services Center to the hospital campus, which opened almost two years later in February 2007. The 48,000 square foot center emphasizes outpatient and ambulatory care. The new building is home to state-of-the-art imaging services, radiology, diabetes, women's services, pediatrics, endoscopies and infusions, and respiratory services.

Sutter Davis Hospital offers the best of all worlds - a technologically advanced acute care hospital, a strong offering of outpatient services, and community outreach programs. The 48-bed hospital and its programs provide care and support to the residents of Davis, Dixon, Winters, Woodland, West Sacramento, Vacaville and rural communities throughout Yolo and Eastern Solano counties.

The 94,000-square-foot hospital opened in 1994 and sits on a 20-acre medical campus. Designed with the future in mind, Sutter Davis Hospital offers the technical flexibility necessary to be on the leading edge of health care.

"I could not possibly, anywhere, have had more gently, efficient, kind and considerate care than I received from Sutter Davis personnel..." quoted by a former patient.

State-of-the-art medical technology is essential for accurate diagnosis and quick treatment. But at Sutter Davis, employees provide more than the best available equipment. A gentle touch, a friendly smile and a comforting word are just a few of the ways Sutter Davis staff show they care about their patients and visitors.

In 1973, it is recorded that the hospital had 80 employees which included six people in lab and x-ray, three in dietary capacities and nine in other miscellaneous capacities. Most of the remainder were nurses and nursing attendants. The facility was utilized by about 36 physicians.

Currently, the hospital has about 380 employees, making it one of Davis' largest private employers. More than 250 physicians now have privileges at Sutter Davis.

Community service has also been a long-standing tradition, and Sutter Davis Hospital employees continue to extend that caring and compassionate spirit beyond the hospital walls. Community outreach programs, health screenings and contributions to community projects are just some examples of the extended "family" our employees have created. True caring and community involvement was exhibited once again recently during the floods of 1997 when several hospital employees volunteered their time.

Each employee, physician and volunteer makes Sutter Davis Hospital the hospital with the personal touch.

History
In 1938, four physicians combined their private practices to form a multi-specialty medical group named The Marysville Clinic. Under the guidance of Dr. Granville S. Delamere, who was inspired by his residency at the Mayo Clinic, a new format for providing care was introduced - ongoing comprehensive health care, with specialty medical, surgical & emergency needs from one source.

The initial building (4th and H Streets), went through many transformations to finally house the seventeen physicians which moved to Third Street in 1968. In 1985 the Women, Children & Teen Center was completed, allowing the growth to continue to 50+ physicians. Added in 1987, the Urgent Care Clinic and Industrial Medicine further increased the level of services available by providing immediate care for acute problems and industrial medicine at regional satellite facilities.

Today, over fifty-five years later, we are still dedicated to quality patient care and service. This is clearly demonstrated by our sustained growth and ongoing commitment to our patients.

In early 1992, the Marysville Medical Group and Yuba Feather Medical Group physicians recognized that healthcare was in a rapid state of change. In an effort to continue to deliver quality healthcare in a cost-effective manner, they decided to join one of the most prominent integrated healthcare organizations in Northern California, Sutter Health. On June 1, 1993, the physicians formed a professional corporation, Sutter North Medical Group, and contracted their services to the newly formed not-for-profit medical foundation, Sutter North Medical Foundation.

The trend for growth, so favorable to enhancing quality through diversity and cost-reduction, will doubtlessly continue with more facilities in this and other nearby communities.
